Irene Hannon's Buried Secrets Review [Guest Post]
(c.) 2015 by Revell |
The Artist Librarian: Today, I'd like to introduce you to my first guest reviewer! My mom, "Mrs. Bookworm" passed down her love of reading to me at a young age and I haven't looked back since. I don't know of any other person that loves and reads more Christian romantic suspense/mysteries, so I thought she'd be perfect to review Irene Hannon's latest novel.

They both wanted quieter, safer lives. But crime never sleeps … and killers keep killing.
Mrs. Bookworm's Review:After years as a Chicago homicide detective, Lisa Grant is ready for the kinder, gentler life of a small-town police chief. But the discovery of a human skeleton by a construction crew at the edge of town taxes department resources. Enter ex-Navy SEAL Mac McGregor, the detective sent by the county to assist on the case. As they work to solve the mystery behind the unmarked grave, danger begins to shadow them. Someone doesn’t want this dead person telling any tales –and will stop at nothing to make certain a life-shattering secret stays buried.
Buried Secrets is the first
book of Irene Hannon’s new series, “Men of Valor.” Hannon departs from her three previous romantic
suspense trilogies by opening with a prologue from the past featuring a first
person POV of the original architect of the criminal cover up. When introduced to Lisa Grant, Mac McGregor
and the rest of the characters in the present, I was immediately able to guess
who the perpetrator was. This gave the
book suspense from a different angle.
Instead of your typical criminal procedural where you uncover “whodunit”
along with the protagonists, I felt the suspense from knowing who the killer
was and seeing how our heroes uncovered the truth.
Hanon’s depiction of her protagonists Lisa and Mac felt quite realistic. They deal with issues in relationships and health problems in a believable way. Their interactions with each other were especially neat: a good give and take between the two (not to mention, the chemistry)!

An apt way to describe my
relationship with Irene Hannon books is “I couldn’t put down the novel!” I can’t wait to see what happens with the
rest of the McGregor brothers in future Men of Valor novels. Romantic suspense lovers and Irene Hannon
fans will be satisfied with this solid start to her latest trilogy.
